GLENCOE GUIDED WINTER WALKING |
1 day - Moderate grade
|
AIMA guided day out in the complex and interesting mountains around Glen Coe for those who have experienced using an axe and crampons before and are looking to get out into the mountains. Have an adventure whilst blowing the cobwebs off of those skills!
OUTLINEWhilst this day is designed as a guided day out rather than a skills course walking amongst legendary Scottish mountains such as the Aonach Eagach or Buchaille Etive Mor, it provides an unbeatable backdrop and there will be plenty of options to brush up on skills and get some great input along the way.
It is therefore ideal for anyone who hasn't been out in winter for a while and wants to refresh their knowledge with an expert, or for anyone new to the winter mountains to take the next steps from a basic winter skills course. It is also an ideal opportunity to take in the tragic history of this famous area and really appreciate the conditions encountered by the fleeing McDonald clansmen encountered following the infamous Glencoe Massacre in the glen below you over 300 years earlier, the legacy of which still remains visible to this day. CONTENTArmed with the latest forecasts and a blank canvas we will set out for a day of adventure in the vicinity of Glencoe, this could be tackling a high top if overhead and underfoot conditions permit or a an equally interesting lower level objective as appropriate.
We will meet by the Famous Clachaig Inn in the heart of Glen Coe and from there we can move to the most appropriate start point for our planned day out. This flexibility ensures we can make the best of the conditions and your time. Always a pleasant place to finish up a day on the hills too! |
