AIM

Avoiding the honeypot of Ben Nevis itself, this guided day out in the dramatic surrounding Mamores mountain range in the vicinity of Ben Nevis is perfect for viewing the ever dominant 'Ben' from a different angle on mountains we will likely have to ourselves. A great way to refresh rusty winter skills or pick up some new ones.

OUTLINE

​Avoiding 'the Ben' enables us to select from a range of mountains nearby arguably much more interesting than the 'normal' well traversed route up Ben Nevis.

​Whilst this day is designed as a guided day out rather than a skills course, there will be plenty of options to brush up on skills and get some great input along the way.
It is therefore ideal for anyone who hasn't been out in winter for a while and wants to refresh their knowledge with an expert, or for anyone new to the winter mountains to take the next steps from a basic winter skills course.

CONTENT

Armed with the latest forecasts and a blank canvas we will set out for a day of adventure in the vicinity of Ben Nevis,  in the 'Mamores', this could be tackling a high top if overhead and underfoot conditions permit or a an equally interesting lower level objective as appropriate.

Please note Ben Nevis itself will not be climbed on these courses; see here if you are looking to climb Ben Nevis as part of our scheduled dates

We will meet by the Ben Nevis Highland Centre in Fort William (zoom map for more detail) and from there we can move to the most appropriate start point for our planned day out. This flexibility ensures we can make the best of the conditions and your time.

PREREQUESITES

  • Experience of full-day summer mountain walking
  • A good level of hill fitness and ability to cope with a day out in possibly inclement conditions
  • Suitable winter kit (see our kit list)

KIT HIRE AVAILABLE

Should you not yet possess, or simply don't fancy travelling with the pointy spiky kit and a bulky helmet, we can provide the kit for a nominal fee which you can add at the time of booking.
